Spotlight: Gage Huffman

Tyler Consolidated senior Gage Huffman has been chosen as this week’s Tyler Star News Spotlight Athlete.
The Tyler Star News Spotlight Athlete for July 3, 2019 is Tyler Consolidated three-sport star Gage Huffman. The senior to be has been a standout for the Knights in basketball, baseball, and football since his freshman year. He is looking to take over the quarterback position for Coach Ryan Walton’s club this fall, after spending the past three seasons as a wide-out and slot receiver.
Huffman has tons of God-given talent and has worked extra hard in the weight room to gain the strength and speed to be the leader the Silver Knights need to have a banner year. In a recent 7-7 summer scrimmage he used his arm strength and accurate passing to hit several receivers for scores. His work ethic, natural talent and dedication makes him a threat every time he’s in a game. Whether it’s on the basketball court, baseball field, or football field, he’s going to be near the action.
Last year in basketball he became a better player by working on his ball handling and shot. His knowledge of the game improved as he became a better defensive player. During baseball season he showed the ability to play several different positions and was one of the team leaders in all categories. With football season right around the corner Knights fans can expect some of the same type of leadership from Huffman as he displayed this past year.
His toughness will be a major asset for the Silver and Black as they welcome the 2019 season. Huffman is not only physically tough but mentally as well. He is an honor roll student who makes the grade on and off the field and can be counted on as a team player who’s willing to pass on his knowledge of the game to the younger kids. If Huffman stays healthy, he could be just what the doctor ordered for the Knights to have a banner year.
Coach Walton said he likes what he sees in Huffman and is expecting big things from him. Huffman has set some big goals of his own. He wants to lead the Silver Knights to the post season and win the LKC. He said he wants to make his senior season one to remember and is hoping to maybe move on to the next level as a baseball player. He is certainly capable of doing that and possibly in a couple sports. Good Luck and stay healthy.
