Tyler Consolidated Can’t Hang On Against St. Marys

Pictured is the 2019 Tyler Consolidated girls softball team. The Silver Knights fell to St. Marys, 17-9, in a sectional showdown, ending their season at the hands of the Blue Devils. Tyler finished the campaign with a 12-15 record.

The Silver Knights took and 8-4 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning but the Blue Devils came out swinging the bats in the fifth and plated seven runs to go up 11-8 on their way to a 17-9 win in the Class A Region 1, Section 2, Tournament.

The Knights got a run in the top of the sixth to pull to within two, but St. Marys closed it out with seven more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Madison DeVaughn took the loss from the mound for the Knights pitching five innings and striking out five batters. Mahayla Nichols got the win going the distance with five K’s for the Blue Devils.

The Silver Knights had 12 hits in the game but suffered six errors along the way to give up eight unearned runs. St. Matys countered with 17 hits while committing three errors. Sadie Nichols drove in three runs for the Knights while Madison DeVaughn had three hits in four attempts. Shiann Jones went 3-4 from the plate and knocked in a run. JoLee Walton got a single and a double with and RBI.

St. Marys was led by Skylar Ahner who went 4-5 with a double, triple and three RBI.Lara Fetty was 4-5 from the plate and knocked in two runs. The Knights wrapped up the 2019 season with a 12-15 record.
