Magnolia Ends Paden City’s Season in Sectionals

Paden City’s Ryan Cross steadies himself at the plate, looking to connect and get a hit.

After Knocking off Tyler Consolidated on Wednesday, the Wildcats of Paden City traveled to New Martinsville on Thursday, to play the Blue Eagles in hopes of extending their season another day. Magnolia had other plans however and took advantage of the Cat’s depleated pitching roster to registar a 12-2 victory and move on to play St. Marys.

The Wildcats drew first blood in the top of the first, but Magnolia came back with a run of it’s own in the bottom of the inning and then piled it on, by scoring in each at bat the rest of the way. They also took advantage of four Wildcat errors to get three runs. The Blue scored 10 runs in the third through sixth inning to ice the game.

Clayton Thomas suffered the loss for Paden City as the Cat’s used three pitchers to try and quell the 11 hit attack by the Blue Eagles but nothing worked. Winning pitcher Jake Gamble pounded out three hits, two singles and a double and drove in four runs, while Caden Cisar stepped up with two hits and three RBI.

Leading the way for Paden City was Jordan Stackpole with two singles and an RBI. The Wildcats ended their season with a winning record of 16-14 while Magnolia improved to 9-16 with the win.

Paden City knocks off Silver Knights 5-1 in Sectional baseball

The Wildcats of Paden City used a four run top of the sixth inning to gain control over Tyler Consolidated and move on in the Region 1, Section 2, baseball tournament with a 5-1 victory to end the Silver Knights season.

Trey Slider picked up the victory for the Cat’s tossing a three hit game while recording 11 strikeouts and no walks. Slider’s strikeout performance gave him over 100 for the season. He also went 2-3 at the plate and scored a run to help his cause. The Silver Knights picked up the first run of the game when Gage Huffman hammered one off the top of the center field fence to drive in Noah Smith, in the bottom of the third, but they never crossed the plate the rest of the game.

Paden City made to nice defensive plays in the first two innings as Catcher Ryan Cross picked of two runners trying to steal. They had three errors in the game but also made several good plays in the field to keep the Knights at bay. The Wildcats had six hits with Clayton Thomas driving in a run with a single.

Tyler West suffered the loss for the Silver Knights with six strikeouts and three walks in five innings work. Paden City picked up an insurance run in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Wildcats Fall 6-1 to Magnolia

Paden City traveled five miles up the road on Monday, May 6, to take on Magnolia in a Region 1, Section 2, baseball game in the double-elimination tournament.

The Wildcats fell behind 4-1 after the first inning and never recouped as the Blue Eagles came away with a 6-1 win to advance in the winners bracket while the Cat’s remained alive, dropping into the losers bracket.

Matt Saxon took the mound for Paden City and took the loss despite striking out eight Blue Eagle batters in five innings of work. Saxon also walked four batters. Trey Slider stepped on in relief in the sixth inning and recorded two strikeouts while walking one and giving up a run.

Jake Gamble got the win for the Blue striking out 12 Wildcats and issuing four walks while holding the Cat’s two three hits. Saxon had two hits for Paden City with a single and a double while also scoring the Cat’s only run.

Caden Cisar had two hits and three runs batted in for Magnolia while Silas McKeever singled, doubled and added an RBI. The Wildcats had four errors in the contest while Magnolia only had one. The Blue Eagle pitchers had a combined 15 strikeouts in the game while the Wildcats combined for 10 strikeouts.
