Finally Free of Injuries, Weber Shining Bright

By Staff | May 8, 2019

Paden City senior E.J. Weber, finally injury free, turned in his best performance of the year Saturday, capturing first place in the OVAC Class AA/A shot put at the conference championship meet. He now turns his gauze to the sectional track meet in West Virginia.

The Tyler Star News Athlete of the Week is a no brainer. For the Week of May 8, the standout Athlete was Paden City three sport athlete EJ Weber. Weber who has battled injuries for the past 2-3 years, is showing sighn of what could have been had he been healthy. Last week he turned in his best performance since tossing the shot -put to qualify for the OVAC finals with a 43-03.50 for second place.

That didn’t seem to satisfy him as he upped that mark on Saturday at the giant OVAC meet against the best of the best with a 44-05.75 for a first place finish to be crowned 1A-2A OVAC CHampion. Quite the feat for a young man who has only participated in the for one year.

Weber is a 6’3″ 285 pound ball of steel ( no pun intended) who also plays on the Cat’s 14-12 baseball team and has been a member of the high school football team since his freshman year. Although he has been plaqued by injuries throughout his high school football days, he came in to play on senior night this past season and rocked some heads. His coaches said if he had been healthy he could have been one of the best lineman in the Valley. With the way he’s going now, he just might be one of the top Shot put throwers in the state.

Congratulations on a great week of track EJ.
