Knights Win Season Finale Vs. Doddridge
The Silver Knights dropped a tough one in their last regular games of the season to St. Marys on Tuesday, April 23, 6-2 and 13-4 in a twin bill on the Blue Devils field.. After scoring the games first run of the night in the top of the first in game one, the Knights gave up three runs to the home team and two more in the second to fall behind 5-1 going into the third.
The Knights got another run in the top of the third but, but that was the end of their scoring as the Blue Devils picked up another run in the fifth for the final score. The Silver Knights could only manage four hits in the game as JoLee Walton went 2-3 from the plate and knocked in two runs. Walton took the loss from the mound throwing three innings with two strike outs and two walks. Madison De Vaughn came on in relief in the fourth and threw four innings with four strike outs.
St. Marys was led by winning pitcher Mahayla Nichols who struck out seven batters in a complete game. She was also credited with 2-3 at the plate and bringing home two runs. St. Marys finished with seven hits on the night while committing three errors.
In the night cap St. Marys took a 7-1 lead after three innings and never looked back as they crushed the Knights 13-4. The Blue Devils finished with 11 hits in the game and committed only two errors while the Silver Knights committed six fatal errors and got just six hits. Maddie DeVaughn suffered the loss for Tyler, throwing 3.1 innings and giving up six hits and seven runs, while striking out two batters and walking one. Breanne Templeton threw .2 innings and walked four batters while Taylor Ebert threw two innings with a strike out and four walks.
The Knights Cheyenne Jones went cracked two singles in the game in three at bats, while JoLee Walton drove in a run with a single in 1-3 from the plate. DeVaughn lined a double while going 1-3 from the plate. The Knights dropped to 10-12with the two game sweep by the Blue Devils.
Tyler Consoidated won it’s final home game of the season on Monday, April 22, against Doddrige County 5-3. The Silver Knights picked up the win behind a home run, a single and two RBI, from senior JoLee Walton to improve their record to an even 10-10.
Madison DeVaughn picked up the win on the mound with five strike outs, in a complete game. Allie Miller also got in on the act with a two run single in the sixth inning.
Doddridge too an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first but the Knights added runs in the third and fourth to tie the game. The Bulldogs scored again in the top of the fifth but Tyler added two more in the bottom of the sixth to wrap up the scoring.
The Knights finished with seven hits on the night and committed six errors. Doddridge had eight hits and five errors but came out on the short side of the score.
