Tyler Chops Down Valley
Tyler Consolidated used an 11-run fourth inning to gain a 22-1 five-inning win over homestanding Valley in Pine Grove on Wednesday, April 17. The win moved the Silver Knights to 9-5 on the season.
Tyler West was the winning pitcher for the Knights with four strikeouts and one walk in just 1.2 innings. Tyler took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and added eight more in the third to go up 11-0. Valley added a run in the bottom of the inning; however, the Silver Knights brought home eight more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
The Lumberjacks committed four errors in the game, to the Silver Knights’ one. The Silver Knights held Valley to just one hit while pounding out nine of their own.
Jake Rice swung the big bat for Tyler with a 2-2 showing and four RBI. Gage Huffman cracked a double to bring home two runs, and Weston Henderson went 2-4 with an RBI. Braden Rine went 1-3 with an RBI, while West slugged a two-base hit that brought home a run. The Silver Knights improved to 9-5 with the win.
Ravenswood Comeback Downs Silver Knights
Tyler Consolidated took a 9-6 lead into the seventh inning at Ravenswood on Thursday, and seemed to have the game in hand, but the Red Devils came through with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to get the win. The Knights out-hit the home team, 9-7, but committed five errors to Ravenswood’s one. Tyler fell to 9-6 with the loss, while Ravenswood now stands at 8-12.
Gage Huffman pitched six innings for the Knights, striking out four batters and walking six. Ravenswood’s Cameron Taylor picked up the win, throwing four innings in relief – striking out six batters and walking four.
The Silver Knights scored a run in the top of the third to take the lead, but Ravenswood plated two to go up 2-1 in the bottom half.
The Knights had a big inning in the fifth, sending six runs home after a two-run fourth and had a 9-4 lead after five. The Red Devils scored two in the sixth and four in the seventh, however, for the win.
Jake Rice had two hits and drove in two runs for Tyler, and Weston Henderson went 2-3 at the plate for two RBI.
