Eagles Comeback Thwarts Wildcats
Magnolia plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday, April 17 in New Martinsville, on its way to a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Paden City. The Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and added two in the fifth for a 3-0 lead. Magnolia got one in the bottom of the inning to cut it to 3-1. Neither team scored in the sixth, but Paden City added a run in the seventh to go up 4-1 and seemed to be in control.
The Blue Eagles, however, took advantage of the Wildcats’ pitching in the seventh and plated four runs on three hits with no one out to grab the win. Jake Gamble threw six innings, striking out 14 batters, before giving way to B. Mirandy in the last frame for the win. Matt Saxon struck out 10 batters in six innings for the ‘Cats.
Clayton Thomas came on in relief of Saxon in the seventh and gave up two hits and two runs before Ryan Cross took over and got the loss, giving up a hit for the game winning run. Thomas had two hits in three at bats and drove in two runs for the Cat’s who fell to 12-10 with the loss.
Wildcats fall to River
Visiting River Local edged Paden City 3-2 in boys high school baseball on Tuesday, April 16, on the Wildcats’ home field – improving to 5-3 while the ‘Cats dropped to 12-9 with the loss. Paden City was held to two hits in the game by River’s Chase Lawrence, who struck out six batters.
Trey Slider was on the mound for Paden City, striking out 10 batters, walking four and giving up five hits in five innings work.
River drew first blood in the game with a run in the top of the second and went up 3-0 going into the top of the sixth.
Paden City looked to comeback, with two runners crossing the plate in the bottom of the inning, to draw to within one but fell short and took the loss.
Clayton Tomas slammed a two-run double to the fence in the sixth for the Wildcats, and Matt Saxon added a single for the ‘Cats only two hits in the game. River committed four errors in the game, while Paden City had two.
