Silver Knights Fall to Blue Eagles
Tyler Consolidated Softball fell to 1-1 on a young season March 21, in New Martinsville, as the Blue Eagles rallied from a one-run deficit, after two innings, to gain a 12-1 four-inning mercy-rule win. The Knights got on the board in the top of the first when Madison DeVaughn drilled a two-out triple.
JoLee Walton came to the plate and hit a routine play to second, but the throw to first was bobbled, and Walton beat it out to knock in DeVaughn.
Magnolia sent five batters to the plate in the first and had runners on second and third, but DeVaughn got a strikeout with a nice changeup pitch. Both teams went down in order in the second, and Tyler went down in order in the third.
Magnolia then came to life and plated four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, 4-1.
Tharp knocked in a run with a triple, and Whiteman drove one in with a single. Kelley and Fluharty each added an RBI in the inning with singles.
The Silver Knights got a single from Shiann Jones in the fourth, with two outs, and Magnolia’s Tharp then struck out Lauren Templeton to close out the top of the inning.
Magnolia got the bats going big in the bottom of the fourth.
Brill reached first on a fly ball; Anderson drilled a single that scored Brill, and then Tharp cracked a two-run shot over the fence.
Whiteman, Kelly, Fluharty and White all scored to give the Blue Eagles seven runs in the inning for the win.
Tharp picked up the win for the Eagles, giving up two hits and striking out seven.
DeVaughn took the loss for Tyler, giving up nine hits, three walks, hitting a pitcher, and hit a batter.
