Silver Knights Softball Looks For Improvement in 2019
After suffering through a 4-16 season in 2018, Tyler Consolidated Softball has high hopes of returning to its winning ways in 2019. The Silver Knights didn’t have any seniors last year but return two for 2019, one being JoLee Walton – an All-State honorable mention honoree and second team LKC catcher. Walton was steady at the plate last year, and Coach Samantha Livingston is expecting her to be even better this season.
Also, senior Taylor Ebert will be back for her final year and will see time pitching and playing outfield. Ebert is a very good outfielder and swings a pretty good bat.
“We have high expectations for this year’s team. We have great leadership In our upperclassmen. We also have a lot of young talent working hard to earn a spot on the field,” Coach Livingston said.
Walton is back as catcher but will see time at short stop and pitcher. Ebert will also take the mound. Junior Madison DeVaughn, a returning starter, will handle SS, outfield and pitching; she is an excellent hitter. Other starters returning include junior Allie Miller at first, junior Shiann Jones at SS and outfield, and Regan Smith – a sophomore outfielder. Sophomore Sadie Nichols will more than likely play third but could see time in the outfield as well.
Others competing for playing time include juniors Summer Miller – catcher/third base, and Alex Mongold at second. Sophomore Maddie Ice will seek time at catcher and third. The line-up includes four freshmen: Audray Dennis, outfield/catcher; Briann Templeton, pitcher, infield, and outfield; Lauren Templeton, pitcher, infield, and outfield; and Romana Rice, outfield.
Head Coach Samantha Livingston is assisted by coach Stan Dennis for the second straight season. Look for the Silver Knights to be a hard hitting and a good fielding team.
They have set the same goals as always to win their conference, win the sectionals and advance as far as possible in post-season.
