Knights Defeat Doddridge County
The Knights Girls Basketball team improved to 13-8 on the season Feb. 7 with a 58-47 seventh place LKC win over cross-county rival Doddridge County. The Silver Knights were led by JoLee Walton, who collected a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Adding to the Knights’ success on Thursday was Josey Jones, who hit for 15 points and added eight rebounds and eight steals. Peyton Kocher hit a three-point shot and ended with 12 points, while freshman Caleigh Phillips stepped up with 11 points and eight rebounds. Rounding out the Knights’ scoring was Lauren Templeton with three markers.
The Knights and Bulldogs battled to a 7-7 tie after the first eight minutes, but Tyler stepped up in the second quarter to outscore the visitors by seven and take a 24-17 halftime lead. The third period also belonged to the Silver Knights as they gained six more points on the Bulldogs with a 17-11 quarter. Doddridge hit for a 19-17 advantage in the fourth frame, but it wasn’t enough as the Knights gained the 11-point win.
Tyler Consolidated hit 25 field goals, to the (8-11) Bulldogs’ 18. Doddridge hit three 3-pointers, to one for Tyler, and made 8-19 free throws, to the Knights 7-14. Doddridge shot just 29 percent on the night, while Tyler canned 47 percent of their attempts.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Knights, 40-32. Tyler also had 11 turnovers, to Doddridge’s 10. The Bulldogs just managed to make 3-19 three-point shots.
Knights Girls Get Win Over Ravenswood
JoLee Walton scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Silver Knights to a 55-30 win over Ravenswood on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at home. The Tyler Consolidated girls improved to 12-8 overall.
Walton hit six field goals and made good on 8-12 from the free throw line while senior mate Josey Jones pumped in 14 points and had seven steals plus two assists.
Peyton Kocher hit for nine points in the win including a 3-pointer. Freshman Lauren Templeton scored six points and added seven rebounds.
The Knights jumped on top in the first quarter, 10-4, and by halftime stretched the lead to 21-12. After the break the Silver Knights put together a big third quarter to take control, 43-22, and cruised to the win. Also scoring for the Knights were Summer Miller with two and four rebounds, while Kelsey Vandruff added a basket. The Knights are 6-6 in the LKC, while Ravenswood stands at 1-19 overall and 1-11 in the LKC. The visitors finished with 16 turnovers, to only two for the home team.
The Knights shot 42percent from the floor, to the Red Devils’ 33 percent. The Knights hit 12-20 free throws, while the visitors canned 10-16. Tyler had 21 field goals, and Ravenswood only managed 10.
Silver Knights Win on Senior Night
The Tyler Consolidated Girls Basketball team celebrated senior night on Monday, Feb. 4 with a 65-51 victory over the Wirt County Tigers on the Knights’ floor. Both teams played well in the first quarter with the Knights coming out on top, 14-12. However, the second period belonged to the Silver Knights, who outscored the visitors, 17-4, to take a 31-16 halftime lead.
The Tigers won the second half, 35-34, but it was too little too late as the Knights picked up win number 11 on the season, against eight losses. Josey Jones had a career night, knocking home 35 points on 17 field goals – including a 3-pointer. She also managed eight steals on the night. Helping Jones in the scoring department was JoLee Walton with 15 points, while also grabbing 12 rebounds and a 5-7 showing at the free throw line.
Peyton Kocher hit for nine points, including a three. Miranda Weekley, Kelsey Vandruff and Lauren Templeton each added two. The Knights made 28 field goals, to the Tigers 18. The Knights made 7-13 free throws.
