Lady Wildcats Secure Third Place With Road Win
Paden City Girls Basketball team picked up a big win over Harman on Saturday, 45-27, in a third place WVHIT game, on the road. The Wildcats have struggled to get wins this season, but Saturday was a big one as the Wildcats outscored the home team in the first three quarters and held on for the win.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 11-7 first-quarter lead and increased it to 18-11 at the half before putting the lead out of reach with an 18-6 third-quarter run. Harman managed to get the best of the ‘Cats in the fourth, 10-9, but it wasn’t enough as the visitors picked up win number five on the season against 10 losses. Harman moved to 9-4 with the loss.
The Wildcats got a steady performance from senior ace Hannah Loy, who took game-scoring honors with 15. She was backed by Skylar Fulks who hit for 11, including a 3-pointer. Paige Leonard added four points and six assists. Loy also pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Leading the way for Harman was Dudley with 11 points. Paden City made 19 field goals and was 5-6 from the free throw line, while Harman hit only 10 goals and struggled at the free throw line – making only 5-16 tries.
“We played good defense and had a good game. Paige (Leonard ) had a great defensive game and rebounded well Raven Fulks sparked us in the third quarter by getting some rebounds and taking the ball down court; she’s learned that she’s got a little bit of speed with her and is handling the ball well.
Skylar hit some big shots in the third quarter, and Maddie Kline hit a few in the second half. We missed a few easy shots on the inside, but we made 19 shots,” said Coach Alan Miller.
