Tyler Volleyball Completes Open Season
The Tyler Consolidated High School volleyball team recently completed the three-week open season when coaches are permitted to work with their players. It was a busy period for the Knights as they took part in a camp at Marshall University and competed in two tournaments. This past week they traveled to Philip Barbour High School to participate in the annual spike-out.
The Knights were in a pool with Hampshire, Philip Barbour, Parkersburg High, and Herbert Hoover. It was a successful day for the Knights as they finished pool play with a 6-2 record, the only losses coming to the Big Red of Parkersburg. The record was good enough to earn the Knights a three seed in tournament play which pitted them against long time rival Oak Glen.
In set one the Golden Bears were victorious, winning 25-18. The Lady Knights would rebound in the second set, winning 25-21. The final set saw the Knights rally from a large deficit to tie the score at 14-14 in a set that only goes to 15. However, a missed pass on serve receive and a downed ball by Oak Glen would end the set 16-14 in favor of Oak Glen.
The Knights return to the court on July 30 when Marshall comes to town to host the annual volleyball camp. The afternoon session is open to all kids in the area, ages grades 5-8. “It is a great camp at a great price,” said Coach Summers.
“The two coaches that are coming again this year are simply incredible with kids and are great role models for these kids.
“I anticipate another large turnout,” said Coach Summers.
