Tyler Drops Sectional Opener Vs. Ritchie

Tyler Consolidated fell to Ritchie County, 9-1, on May 1 in the Lady Knights’ first game of a double elimination sectional softball tournament in Ellenboro.

The Silver Knights, who are now 4-15 on the year, took a quick lead in the top of the first when a runner scored on an RBI by Shiann Jones.

DeVaughn, who pitched all six innings, kept the Rebels in check in the bottom of the first, but the second inning did them in as Ritchie poured it on with five runners crossing the plate to send the Rebels on their way to the win.

The Knights failed to score the rest of the way while the Rebels got a run in the fourth, fifth and two in the sixth for their final count. Ritchie had nine hits in the game

compared to the Silver Knights’ six while both teams committed two errors.

DeVaughn went 3-3 from the plate, while Hannah Jackson got two hits in three attempts, and Jones added the RBI.

Ritchie now stands at 15-10 on the year and had the winning pitcher in Chloe Elliott who fanned 13 Knights and didn’t issue a walk in seven innings.
