Slider, Saxon Are Recognized as Athletes Of the Week
The Tyler Star News Athletes of the week for April 11 are a pair of Paden City high school junior baseball players. Trey Slider, a lefty pitcher and first baseman, was a big part in the Wildcats’ last two wins as he pitched a five-inning shutout ball game, striking out four in the win over a tough Cameron team. He also knocked in a run to help the Wildcats get the win. On Friday, Trey did his damage at the plate as he was a perfect 4-4, knocking in two runners as the Wildcats took their third straight victory in a big win over St. Marys. Slider has one of the better curve balls in the area and can mix it up, bringing the heat when needed.
Saxon, an up-and-coming three-sport star was very effective for the Wildcats this week as he came on in relief for Slider against Cameron, recording three strikeouts. In the matchup with St. Marys, he added a timely hit to bring in two runs while playing error-free in the field. Earlier in the week, he ran in his first track meet of the year as the ‘Cats’ took part in the Wetzel/Tyler Track League meet held at Tyler Consolidated. Saxon took part in four events and added points to the Wildcats’ total as he gained a third place finish in the long jump and the 100-meter dash.
Slider and Saxon are both standout basketball players for the Wildcats as well.
