Trey Slider Earns Spotlight This Week
The Tyler Star News Athlete of the Week for February 21, 2018 is Paden City High School junior basketball player Trey Slider. Slider is a 5′ 8″ player who mostly plays under the basket. By looking at the past weeks stats, one can tell why! Often going up against kids much taller, Slider uses good body position and physicality to hold his own and then some. In two games last week he recorded double-doubles against some pretty good competition.
Against Monroe Central, he knocked in a game-high 22 points, which included four three-pointers and a 4-5 free throw shooting. He was also credited with 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Later in the week against Clay Battelle, Slider again had it going as he found the range from the NBA three-point line and canned five long bombs. He finished the night again as the top scorer with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Slider was also top assist leader in the game with six.
Special Honorable Mention for the week goes out to Tyler Consolidated’s senior Adam Efaw. Efaw had a good night against Ritchie as he came off the bench to the delight of the crowd and hit a nice little hook in the middle, plus a quick take to the basket off a feed to get his four points.
Honorable Mention goes out to all of the seniors on Paden City and Tyler Consolidated basketball teams, boys and girls, for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. Good luck to them all in post-season play and beyond.
