A Senior Night Win For Silver Knights
Tyler Consolidated celebrated senior night on Monday, Feb. 12, against Doddridge County, in a girls basketball game. The Bulldogs came to town, hoping to spoil the party, but the Knights had a victory party, sending the visitors packing at the hands of a 58-41 setback.
Amanda Reynolds, the only senior on the Silver Knights team, had a great night in her last regular season game of her high school career. Reynolds, who is a good scorer but a better team player, hit a nice jumper in the first quarter and knocked in 3-4 foul shots to end with five points. However, she also added six steals, five rebounds and five assists before retiring to the bench for the night.
The Knights came out of the gates fast on Feb. 12 as they took an 11-5 lead on the heels of a Reynolds basket, a three from Cora Grimm, and a basket from JoLee Walton. The second period also belonged to Tyler as they outscored the Bulldogs, 14-9, to take a 25-13 halftime lead. Alexa Johnson hit two buckets down low and controlled the boards in the second quarter.
Doddridge put on a mini comeback in the third, outscoring the Knights, 18-15, but the fourth quarter was all Tyler Consolidated. They put 18 on the board, compared to the visitors’ 10, for the final margin. Junior standout Josey Jones put 17 points, including two three-point shots, on the board to lead the Silver Knights, while also getting nine steals. Walton cashed in 15 points and gathered 10 rebounds, while Peyton Kocher hit for 10, including two three-pointers.
Grimm finished with three points, and Johnson added four. Regan Smith hit two free-throws, and Miranda Smith went 2-2 from the line. The Knights had a good night at the free-throw line, going 17-23 and hitting 18 field goals out of 43 attempts. Tyler finished the regular season with a 12-10 record and will start sectional play tonight with a 7 p.m. home matchup against Ritchie County.
