Wildcats Lose WVHIT Game to Meadow Bridge
Paden City’s boys basketball team fell to 4-10 on Feb. 3 when the Wildcats team went up against a good Meadow Bridge team in a third round game of the West Virginia Hometown Tournament. Meadow Bridge improved to 8-6 with the 92-61 blasting of the Wildcats.
The home team jumped out to a huge 25-9 first quarter lead and increased in 52-25 at the half. Paden City couldn’t keep the pace, and by the end of the third period, were down 76-40. The Wildcats got a good effort in the final eight as they outscored Meadow Bridge, 21-15, but the comeback fell short for the visitors.
The Wildcats were led in scoring by the junior duo of Ethan Cross – with 17 points, including five from beyond the arc – and Trey Slider who hit a three and was 4-5 from the line, to finish with 15 points. Cross also had two steals and three assists while Slider got eight rebounds and four assists. Senior Seth Bohrer hit for 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Meadow Bridge, however, finished with four double figure scorers, including the game’s leader Kobe Rozell with 20, which included two three-pointers. Will Woods added 18. They also out-rebounded the Wildcats, 38-21, and hit 38 field goals to Paden City’s 22. The Wildcats made 8-12 free throws while sending Meadow Bridge to the line just eight times.
Also scoring for Paden City was Bryant McKay, who got six points on two three pointer and Nicholas Clark added five. Eugene Smith got five points including a three and Jason Anderson added a bucket to round out the scoring for Paden City.
Wildcats Fall Against Blue Eagles
The Paden City Wildcats traveled to New Martinsville on Jan. 30 for a return matchup against the Blue Eagles who whipped the Wildcats on Paden City’s floor earlier this season. In Tuesday night’s battle, the home team took control in the first quarter and led by nine, 16-7. The second frame was much better for Paden City as the boys stayed right with Magnolia, but the Eagles went up one more point at the half for a 10 point lead, 46-36.
Paden City hit some big shots in the second frame, but once again missed foul shots proved crucial. The Blue Eagles got 27 points from their leader, Leo Herrick, to give them the win, 72-55, but the Wildcats didn’t go down easy.
Leading the way for Paden City was Ethan Cross who canned 20 points, including four three-pointers, while Matt Saxon got 10 points and two threes. Trey Slider hit a three and went 7-12 from the free throw line to finish with 12 markers, and Garrett Cross added seven points. Slider also had six rebounds and three assists.
Backing Herrick up for Magnolia was DeMarco Smith with 16, including two threes. and Devin Shimp with 13. Herrick also had nine rebounds and three steals. Paden City scored 29 points in the second half to 34 for the Eagles. The Wildcats hit just 12-23 from the free throw line, while the Blue Eagles ended with 23-32. Paden City made 18 of 47 shots from the floor, while Magnolia hit on 23-51. The Blue Eagles also led in rebounding 29-19.
Also denting the score board for the Wildcats was Seth Bohrer with five and Clark with one. The Wildcats now stand at 4-8 on the season.
