Tyler Girls Get Road Victory
The Silver Knights took their show on the road Feb. 1 for a return match with the Ravenswood Red Devils. Back on Dec. 14, the Lady Knights got a win over Ravenswood, on the Knights’ home court. Winning on the road is never easy. Yet, the Knights have been on fire lately and extended their win streak Thursday to three, with a 60-53 victory.
Both teams battled back and forth in the first quarter, with the Knights winning out 20-18 on the heals of some good team play and hot shooting from Josey Jones and Amanda Reynolds. The second quarter saw the Knights extend their lead to 12 at the half as they won the round 20-10.
After the break, Coach Cathy Boggs’ team took complete control, limiting the home team to only four points while hitting 11 to go up 19 heading into the last eight minutes. With the Silver Knights subbing frequently the rest of the way, the Red Devils outscored the Knights, 21-9, in the last period, but it was too little too late as the Knights secured the win.
Jones had a great game for the Silver Knights, knocking in a game-high 23 points, plus adding four rebounds, four assists and three steals. She was backed in the scoring department by senior Reynolds, who pitched in 16 points, including a three. JoLee Walton hit for eight points in the contest and grabbed seven rebounds, while Peyton Kocher added six points on two three-pointers. Cora Grimm knocked in a three-pointer, and Regan Smith and Alexa Johnson each had a basket.
The Knights out-rebounded the home team, 32-25. The Red Devils shot 25 free throws and hit 20, to 10-16 for Tyler. The Silver Knights, however, got 23 of 48 field goals to the Red Devils’ 15 of 46. The Silver Knights also caused 15 Ravenswood turnovers.
Silver Knights get win over Beallsville
Tyler Consolidated traveled to Beallsville, Ohio on Jan. 29 for a matchup with the Blue Devils. The Knights have been playing good ball lately and put together another strong performance to come away with a 54-49 win.
The Knights jumped in front, 11-6, after one quarter as Amanda Reynolds put in six points, and JoLee Walton added three. However, the Blue Devils used a 17-point second quarter to take a 23-18 lead at the break. Reynolds hit a three in the second frame, but the Knights only put seven points on the board.
The third quarter belonged to the Silver Knights as they pounced on the home team, 16-12, to draw to within one, with eight minutes to play. Alexa Johnson, Tyler’s six-foot center, came through in a big way in the fourth quarter, as she scored seven points with a basket and 5-8 from the line. She finished the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler outscored the home team, 20-14, in the fourth to get the win.
The Silver Knights used balanced scoring to overcome a 17-point game from Louden and 10 from Howell. The Knights had four double-figure scorers With Peyton Kocher leading the way with her long-range shooting. She hit five three-pointers in the game for 15 points. Johnson was next with 11, while Josey Jones and Reynolds each hit for 10. Walton was right behind with eight and seven boards. The Knights had a good game from the free throw line, hitting on 16-24. They were 16-42 from the floor.
