Silver Knights Boys Fall To Ravenswood
Tyler Consolidated gave Ravenswood, the number two ranked team in Class A, all they wanted on Friday night on the Red Devils home floor, before falling by 12 points, 75-63.
The Knights went into the locker room at halftime, dead even with the Red Devils, but a big third quarter for Ravenswood proved to be the difference as they put 25 points on the board to Tyler’s 10. The Silver Knights outscored Ravenswood 17-14 in the last frame but it wasn’t enough as the home team raised its record to 14-1 on the season.
Griffin Phillips continued his fine play for the Silver Knights as he ended the game with 24 points, including a trio of long bombs from beyond the arc to lead all scorers on the night. He also added three steals and three assists. Mark Rucker backed him in the scoring department with 16, including two three pointers.
The Knights made 21 field goals to Ravenswood’s 20, but the game was lost at the foul line where the home team made 30-35 attempts. The Knights only got to the line 18 times, making 14.

Rucker Leads The Knights
The Tyler Consolidated boys basketball team traveled to St. Mary’s on Jan. 30, and picked up win number 12 in an easy 76-59 victory over the Blue Devils. The Silver Knights actually led 76-46 with two minutes to play before the Devils went on a scoring spree against the Knights’ bench, drawing to within 17 as the buzzer sounded.
The Knights jumped out to a quick 10-point lead after one quarter of play, 17-7, and increased their lead to 16 at the half. Nate Lancaster, who finished with 13 points, got the scoring started on a nice in-the-paint shot. From there, it was all Silver Knights as they used a variety of inside-outside shots to keep the Blue Devils off balance. The Knights also got several easy baskets off of turnovers from their pressure defense. The inside duo of Steven Ross and Tyler West evenly divided 20 markers with five baskets each.
Griffin Phillips, who has been on a scoring barrage lately, ended with five steals, six rebounds, four assists and nine points for an all-around complete game. Leading the Knights in the win, however, was Mark Rucker, who found his shooting touch and lit up the score board for 25 points, including five from beyond the arc, all in the third period. Rucker also added three steals and six rebounds, and four assists. West and Ross accounted for three blocks and each added four rebounds. Senior Mark Wilson hit a three and ended with seven points, while Luke Daugherty got a basket for two points.
The Silver Knights hit on 31 of 49 field goals and went 7-12 from the free throw line. The Knights’ record on the season now stands at 12-5, with a home game scheduled for tonight against Parkersburg Catholic, starting at 6 p.m. with a JV game.
