Phillips Is Athlete Of The Week
The Tyler Star News’ Athlete of the Week for January 31, 2017 is Tyler Consolidated basketball player Griffin Phillips. Phillips had two outstanding games this past week as he scored 59 points, had nine steals, six assists and 12 rebounds.
Against Wirt County on Jan. 25, Phillips lit the board up for 31 points to lead the Knights to an 83-57 win over the Tigers. He added six steals, six rebounds and three assists. On Jan. 27, at the New Martinsville Rotary Challenge, he came back with another strong game over the Seminoles of Monroe County, Ohio, 80-54. His stats on the night also included four assists, six rebounds and three steals.
Griffin is an excellent basketball player who keeps everyone else in the game involved. He enjoys winning and plays hard, night in and night out. His totals for the two games are more impressive when you take in consideration he played just barely three quarters in each game.
Earning Special Honorable Mention for the week are Silver Knights’ Dylan Roberts, Paden City’s Ethan Cross, and Tyler Consolidated wrestler Cory Chipps.
