Kocher, Chipps Are Recognized as Athletes of the Week
The Tyler Star News Athletes of the Week for January 17, 2018 are a pair of Silver Knight athletes.
Peyton Kocher, Knights girls basketball player, has been steady all year at the point guard position. She handles the ball well and plays good defense. As a scorer on a team that has four consistant double figure scorers, she is not afraid to take her turn.
She may be the best long-distance shooter on the team as she has recorded three point goals in nearly every game this season. On Thursday, against Magnolia, she kept the Blue Eagles at bay with her passing and outside shooting. Peyton had the hot hand with four 3’s and five assists to lead the attack. She is also equally as good at taking the ball to the rim and is an excellent foul shooter. Only a junior, she has plenty to look forward to as the season rolls on and into next year as well.
Peyton is also a member of the Silver Knights volleyball team, which promises to be a force to reckoned with next season. Good luck to Peyton and keep up the good work.
The Silver Knights Wrestling Team got some mat time on Saturday as St. Mary’s held its tournament despite the elements. Standing tall for the Knights during the meet was Senior Cory Chipps who went undefeated on the day and finished as the Heavyweight champion of the event. Chipps is turning into one of the toughest matchups around in every event. He has the size, strength and agility to become one of the premier wrestlers in the state.
“I’m not afraid to put Cory up against anyone. He has improved to the point where some don’t want to wrestle him. When he decides to take over a match, he has the ability to do it, and it’s going to be hard to stop him. He has learned some new moves and his overall size and strength are just awesome,” said Coach Chad Snider.
Congratlations to both of these fine athletes.
