Silver Knights Hoopsters Phillips, Walton Earn Recognition
The Tyler Star News Athletes of the Week of December 13, are Silver Knights boys basketball player Griffin Phillips and Knights girls basketball player JoLee Walton.
Phillips started the season in a big way on the road against Valley as the Knights crushed the Lumberjacks 75-43. Although he played just a little over two quarters, Phillips lit up the scoreboard with 21 points. His court presence was made known as he had six steals and caused four other turnovers. He also added four assists and had four rebounds.
In the Knights second win of the week against Cameron, on the road, Phillips hit for 16 points while getting five steals and four rebounds.
Walton has helped lead the Silver Knights girls to wins over South Harrison and St. Mary’s for the week. In the match up with the always tough Blue Devils, she Poured in 21 points, and had an 11-14 showing from the free throw line. She also hit the boards hard and ended the night as the leading rebounder with 14. Walton is a hard nosed player who will get in among the taller girls and usually comes out on top. In the win over South Harrison she added 15 points while pulling down eight boards and getting three steals.
Earning special honorable mention this week is Tyler’s Mark Rucker, Josey Jones, and Peyton Kocher. Paden City’s Hannah Loy and Wildcat Ethan Cross.
