Silver Knights Wrestlers Ready to Tangle
Coach Chad Snider has been working his Tyler Consolidated wrestling squad for the past three and a half weeks in anticipation of the season opener. The Knights led by senior veterans Cory Chipps and Mike Doyle will take to the mat on Friday and Saturday this week, as Tyler Consolidated invades Ritchie County for their annual duel tournament.
“I’m excited, it can’t get here to soon for me, we have some very dedicated and hard working kids ready to hit the mat and I can’t wait to see how well they fare against what promises to be some great competition. We have three seniors who I believe can get us a lot of wins and for the first time in a while we have enough to field a pretty good team. Chipps, is back for his final year in the 285 weight class and he promises to be a real contender. Doyle will be a handful for anyone in the state. These kids have spent a lot of time in the weight room and on the mat and are ready to get underway, I think we will be fine,” said coach Snider.
The Knights are no longer in the OVAC but they have a schedule that is tournament heavy.
They also wrestle against some of the toughest competition in Class A, while hosting one of the better tournaments on Saturday December 16, starting at 10 a.m. The rest of their schedule includes: December 13, @ Magnolia, starting at 6 p.m., Dcember 20, @ Weirton Madonna, a quad starting at 6 p.m., Dec. 29, @ Magnolia, holiday quad. 10 a.m., Jan. 6, @ Cameron Tournament, 10 a.m., Jan. 10, home against River, 6 p.m., Jan 13, @ St. Mary’s Alumni Tournament, 10 a.m., Jan. 24, home, Union Bank Quad, 6 p.m., Jan. 27, @ Ritchie A tournament, 9 a.m., Feb. 7, @ Calhoun, LKC Tournament, 10 a.m., Feb. 9-10, @ Fairmont Armory, Regionals, Feb. 22-24 @ Huntington Civic Center, State tournament.
