Knights Return Four Staters
The Lady Knights of Tyler Consolidated will begin their fourth season under coach Cathy Boggs and assistant Ben Thomas and expectations are running high as they prepare for the season opener Friday, December 1, against South Harrison on the home court.
Returning for her fourth year as a Lady Knight is senior co-captain Amanda Reynolds, a 5′ 7″ guard who can do it all. Reynolds is a true team player who enjoys getting her team mates involved just as much as scoring a basket. She returns as the Knights leader in steals and assists. She is also a pure shooter who can hit the outside shot or take it to the bucket. This past Saturday, she signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball career at Bethany College following her graduation from Tyler Consolidated.
“I couldn’t be more proud of her, there isn’t a harder working kid than Amanda Reynolds. For her fourth year now, she has been the first to show up at the gym and the last to leave, going through her own ball-handling and shooting workouts, in addition to our 2-3 hour practice,” said Boggs.
Reynolds is the only senior on the team but she’s not the only gun in the arsenal. The Knights are loaded with returning skill players in the junior class. Back as starters from last year are three juniors who just got back from their second straight trip to the state volleyball tournament in what has turned into an annual trip for Tyler Consolidated.
Josey Jones, a 5’6″ point guard brings a lot of energy to the team and can knock down the three while also having the ability to take over a game with her all around play. She is joined by junior forward JoLee Walton, who showed last year she can score inside or out. She may be the best pure shooter on the team and is a deadly foul shooter. Walton, is also a good reounder and solid denesive player.
Peyton Kocher, also returns as a starter and can change the momentum in a hurry with her three point shooting. She is a streak shooter who can stretch the defense when she’s on. Kocher can also bring the ball up court, a luxury for Boggs, who has several good ball handlers.
“These girls work well together and are successful at everything they do. We hope that success rolls right over into basketball season. Coach Thomas and I are looking forward to this season with the girls. They are a very talented and hardworking group,” Coach Boggs added.
The Knights also return junior, impact players Miranda Weekley and Cora Grimm. Both are hard working athletes who will provide competition for playing time. “Weekley and Grimm gave us a lot of quality minutes last year and we’ll be counting on them again this season.”
After setting out last season junior 6′ volleyball star Alexa Johnson has rejoined the team and will be looking to fill a void in the middle left by the graduation of last years center Aleah Black. Johnson, has really matured as an athlete and could make an immediate impact in the lane.
Returning sophomores include: Allie Miller, Summer Miller, and Madison Craven. First year sophomores and incoming freshmen include: Hedi Dennis (So), Shiann Jones (So), Kelsi Vandruff, Eden Turner, Regan Smith, Lexi Southerly, Zoie Mudd, Hallie Placer, Hailey Lane, and Mackenzie Perine.
