Silver Knights’ Runners Perform Well on the Big Stage

By Staff | Nov 1, 2017

Although the odds were stacked against them, two of Tyler Consolidated’s cross country runners overcame adversity and earned individual spots at the state meet. Spencer Corley only a freshman has shown all season long that he belongs in the elite runners in the state. On Saturday, in Ona , West Virginia at Cabell Midland high school, Corley took to the course against a field of 131 of the states top distance runners. Many whom were much more experienced and had been there before. However, determination, desire and hard work always pays off, and it did on this particular cold and rainy day for the Silver Knights

As he has in nearly every event this season Spencer stayed with the top of the pack as they covered the 5K race, only 50 seconds serarated the Knights star from the top five. Less than a minute! Although he never brought home the hardware, he certainly should be commended on a job well done and for representing Tyler Consolidated high school so well. His finishing time of 17:50 was good for 30th among the huge field and although Tyler Consolidated was ineligible for points, Corley certainly waspoint worthy.

Also representing the Silver Knights was girls distance runner Jahnvi Duncan who came in with a repsectable 22:22 time good for 61st among the best of the best in Class AA-A. Duncan is a senior runner who has been the glue that holds the grils team together all-season long. She has finished as one of the top runners in most of her meets this season and has set the example for the younger Knights girls to follow for seasons to come. Tyler Consolidated can be and should be proud of these find cross country/distance runners. We want to thank them and the rest of the team for providing some exciting moments for the fans of Tyler Consolidation cross country.
