Silver Knights Crush Tolsia
Tyler Consolidated scored on the opening drive of the game Friday, when Sophomore sensation Mark Rucker rambled 48 yards for the first of his four touchdowns on the night giving the Knights a 6-0 lead after the conversion run failed. with only 1:22 off the first quarter clock.
Tolsia who won the coin toss and deferred to the second half came right back however and put together a four minute drive to tie up the score at 6-6 with a one yard run. The point after attempt was blocked when Sophomore Gage Huffman came in untouched and dove around a block to bat down the kick.
After a change of possessions, Rucker again found the end zone when he went in from seven yards with 2:53 left in the quarter, giving the Knights a 12-6 lead. Griffin Phillips was good on the conversion run and the score stood at 14-6.
Tolsia couldn’t get anything going and with 8:43 to go in the second period Rucker added yet another score as he hauled in a 21 yard strike from Phillips to up the count to 21-6 after Phillips extra point kick was true to the mark.
Tolsia got on the board again before halftime on a nine yard run with 2:43 to go. They added the two point conversion pass to send them into the locker room down seven 21-14. That was the closest they would get however as the Knights defense tightened up in the second half to hold the visitors scoreless.
Hunter Forrester came up huge in the second half scoring three times on a 16 yard pass from Phillips and a 26 yard run. He later returned a fumble recovery 32 yards for a score to give the Knights a 41-14 lead at the end of three. Rucker ended the Silver Knights scoring when he got his fourth score of the night on a tackle breaking 56 yard run a minute into the fourth making the final score 48-14. Phillips ended with three extra point kicks and a two point conversion run while passing for two scores.
The Silver Knights led in first downs 17-12, while gaining 459 yards to Tolsia’s 251. Tyler had no fumbles and had six penalties for 60 yards. Tolsia lost 4-5 fumbles and were penalized thee times for 30 yards.
Rucker had 189 yards rushing on 16 carries and hauled in four passes for 38 yards. Phillips was 7-10 passing for 87 yards and two T.D.’s. Kyle Mason has one catch for 26 yards while Forrester has a catch for 16 yards. Brandon Weigle caught one pass for seven yards.
The Silver Knights will try to keep their playoff hopes alive when they return to action this Friday night at 7 p.m. in a home contest against Magnolia.
