Silver Knights Destroy Rebels
Tyler Consolidated got a big time win on Friday night as they made the trip into Rebel country and came away with a huge 54-6 victory to improve to 3-3 on the season and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Coming off a bye week the Knights wasted no time in gaining the lead as they scored on their first possession when junior quarterback Griffin Phillips called his own number and went through the left side of the line for a 15 yard T.D. at the 7:03 mark of the first quarter. Sophomore Gage Huffman caught the two point conversion toss from Phillips and the score was 8-0.
The Knights forced Ritchie into a three and out and it than became the Mark Rucker show as he scored three straight touchdowns in the last four minutes of the quarter on runs of one yard, 59 yards and three yards. Phillips added two extra point kicks and at the end of one it was 28-0.
Tyler would get two more scores before the half as Brandon Weigle grabbed a 16 yard scoring strike from Phillips and Rucker rambled 30 yards for another. Phillips added one of two point after attempts to stretch the lead to 41-0 before Ritchie managed their only points of the game on a two yard run with :24 seconds left in the half.
Rucker got his fifth score of the night at the 7:42 mark of the third when he took the kick 85 yards to the house. Phillips added his fourth point after kick to make it 48-6. Jacob America added another Knights score with :39 seconds left in the third to wrap up the Silver Knights scoring for the 54-6 win.
Rucker finished the night with 160 yards rushing on 11 carries and grabbed one pass for 11 yards, while scoring five times in a little over two quarters play. Phillips added 107 yards on only four rushes for a score, while passing for 42 yards on 5-9 attempts and a score.
The Silver Knights will return to action on Friday night in a home contest against Tolsia at 7 p.m.
