Knights Drop Match to Warren in Three Sets

The Silver Knights made the long drive to Warren Local on Thursday, and it turned in to a longer ride back home. Going down with their sights on improving to 8-2 the Knights ran into a buzz saw and came away with a quick three set setback to the home team. Set one was the closest match of the three 25-17, with Warren taking the next two 25-13 and 25-11.

Tyler Consolidated has a very nice team but as always with young teams you often don’t know what to expect. On this night it was mostly Warren as they also won the JV match in three 26-28, 25-7 and 25-16. For the Knights varsity JoLee Walton led the attack with 13 assists, three kills, three digs and two points. She was followed by Josey Jones you got 11 digs, four kills and two points. Alexa Johnson slammed down eight kills and had three blocks while Cora Grimm added 11 digs and two points. Freshman Regan Smith pitched in with five digs and three pointsand Ali Miller got four points and four digs. Emily Lancaster helped the Knight cause with two kills and two digs plus a point and Victoria Hood claimed two blocks.

JV scoring was led by Eden Turner with nine points while Sadie Nichols added five, Nadison DeVaughn four and Regan Smith two. The Silver Knights varsity record now stands at 7-3 with their next match tomorrow night at River against the Pilots and Shenandoah, Ohio, starting at 5:30.

Silver Knights takes down Catholic

Tyler Consolidated’s volleyball team continued it’s winning ways on Tuesday, September 12, in a home match with Parkersburg Catholic. After winning the first set in easy fashion the Knights struggled in the second set against the Crusaders dropping a 15-25 decision. Tyler seemed to take offense to that set and came roaring back with two straight easy set wins 25-12 and 25-9 to grab the win.

The victory gave Coach Richard Summers squad a sparkling 7-2 record on the year against some of the toughest competition in the state. The Knights got good play from 10 different players in the match had a total of 46 digs on the night and 40 kills to over power the visitors.

The junior laden team got excellent play from Josey Jones who finished with nine kills and a block, 12 digs, 11 points and four aces. Fellow junior Emily Lancaster, had a big night with a game high 11 kills while adding six blocks and three digs. JoLee Walton another junior continued to show her skill as a setter and all-around player as she managed 38 assists, six digs and 12 points including three aces.

Other juniors adding to the Knights stats were Cora Grimm with 10 digs, and nine points with three aces. Alexa Johnson with 10 kills, three blocks and a dig and Peyton Kocher with four digs and four points.

Freshman Regan Smith came up big with five kills, two blocks, three digs and eight points including two aces. Summer Miller served up 14 points with two aces and added three digs. Alie Miller got four kills and four digs while Victoria Hood added a kill.

The Knights JV team also got a win as they downed the Crusaders in straight sets 25-22 and 27-25, For the Knights Summer Miller picked up 13 points to lead the way.

Lady Knights knockout pilots

Tyler Consolidated hosted River Local, Ohio, Monday, September 11, in a best of five set volleyball match. The Knights wasted no time sending the pilots back across the river with a three set win 25-9, 25-11 and 25 16 to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Leading the way for the Silver Knights was junior Cora Grimm with a match high 16 points, including five aces and eight digs. JoLee Walton also had a good match as she dished out 27 assists, scored 10 points with three aces and picked up three digs.

Alexa Johnson added 14 kills, and three blocks while Emily Lancaster knocked down 10 kills, with four blocks and four digs. Josey Jones contributed eight points, six digs, three kills, one block and two aces. Summer Miller had her serve going as she scored seven points including two aces while Ali Miller added four digs.

Peyton Kocher got four digs, five points and two aces. Freshman Regan Smith ended with four kills, three digs, five points and an ace. Victoria Hood pitched in two kills, two blocks and a dig.

The Lady Knights JV team got another victory as well as they uphended the River squad in two straight 25-13 and 25-12. For the winners it was Madison DeVaughn’s nine points and two aces leading the way while closely followed by Summer Miller with seven points and two aces. Sadie Nichols scored well with seven points and an ace while Jonaya Staley added five nice serves for points and an ace. Lindsay Thompson chipped in with two points.

“We played a lot of kids tonight and everyone of them played well. Some of these girls are getting some valuable varsity experience and they are improving with each outing. We don’t have any seniors on this team but our juniors are a talented bunch, and they are making the younger girls even better. I am very proud of this team and tonight you could see what they can do,” Coach Richard Summers said.
