Silver Knights Girls Soccer Team Plays Tough Against Linsly
The Linsly Lady Cadets spoiled the Lady Knights home soccer team opener on Monday, August 28, with a 3-0 victory. Nonetheless, the Knights played perhaps their best full game of soccer so far this season.
“Linsly, came in with a whole lot more experience than we have, They had some very good players up front who were fast and looked to score. And for us to give up just three goals on the evening says a lot about the girls along the line of defense. We were just as fast as they were and just as physical tonight,” said Knights Coach Ben Thomas.
Leading the way for the Knight’s defense was Demry Nelson and Joralda Rice, each of whom had some really nice plays on the ball in an effort to minimize Linsly’s scoring opportunities.
In addition Autumn Wells had another good night in the goal keeping position with a huge 15 saves. Unfortunately for Tyler offense was not a factor in the game with only one shot on goal coming from the foot of Kenna Smith.
“It’s too bad. We had our opportunities, especially in the second half, to put the ball in the net several times but we failed to capitalize. I am always telling our girls to shoot and to shoot early. It just didn’t happen tonight.”
Things changed for the Knights with a road trip to Magnolia on Wednesday and Tyler took a season high 33 shots on goal scoring on three shots. Leading the attack for the Silver and Black was Senior Kenna Smith who scored two goals on 13 shots. Amanda Reynolds who also has a goal on 10 shots, got an assist in the game. In addition, Kassidy Starkey attempted five shots on goal, Miranda Weekley had four shots, while Belle Camerlin and Madison Craven each took a shot on goal.
“This was by far our cleanest game. It was like we played to beat Magnolia rather than playing to win a soccer game. We allowed our emotions to get in the way of what we wanted to do which is keep possession of the ball. Our passes and kicks were rushed and not on target, we didn’t talk, and we didn’t break down on the ball on defense. Still yet we got the victory. There’s nothing sweeter than a victory over Magnolia, and it’s always been that way ever since I was in school,” stated Coach Thomas.
Autumn Wells had three saves on three shots and Shiann Jones had one save on one shot during the evening.
