Silver Knights’ Walton, Jones Get the Spotlight
The Tyler Star News Spotlight for the week of August 2, is shining on two Silver Knights volleyball players. The Knights who don’t have any seniors signed up for this years squad will look to a talented group of juniors to lead them this season and beyond. One of those juniors is JoLee Walton a three sport star who has lettered her first two years in Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. She will be entering her third season as a Knights regular in volleyball where Coaches Richard and Tracy Summers are expecting a breakout season from her.
Walton has the athleticism to play any position on the floor, last year she spent some time as the setter, was used as a hitter and played well in the back row where she finished as the teams second leading digger. Expect to she her score often as she has a wicked serve that is hard for opposing teams to handle. She played at the state tournament her freshman year and say’s she is looking to help her team win their conference, the sectionals, regionals and make it back to Charleston.
She is also a member of the Silver Knights basketball team where she has been a starter since her freshman season. This past year she ended as the teams second leading scorer and rebounder and was chosen to shoot in the LKC tournament free throw contest canning 7-10 shots.
Walton’s favorite sport however is softball where she excelled for Coach Samantha Livingston as the teams catcher for the second straight year. She was All-LKC mentioned in all three sports. JoLee is also an honor student at TCHS, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Josey Jones another Silver Knight volleyball standout is expected to be a game changer. Jones can play anywhere on the court and is a force at the net. She spent most of her summer working on her game and is coming into pre-season much stronger and with a better understanding of the game. She has a knack for making the hard to make plays.
“Josie has a lot of natural ability, put that together with a strong desire to play and win and it normally makes everyone around you better. I believe this whole group of kids from the freshmen up will feed off of what she does and that should be a plus,” said coach Summers.
As good as that sounds Jones is still looking for basketball season to roll around where she can showcase her talent as a guard for the Knights. Since last season, she has played travel ball and stood out against some of the best competition in the Tri-State. Jones can not only handle the ball well in transition but she is a natural scorer who can take over a game. Her speed and defense make her a valuable weapon for Coach Cathy Boggs.
Josie is a two year letter winner in both sports and is looking to make it three. She not only excells in sports but is also a winner in the classroom. Like Walton, her goals this year are to help the Knights win their conference and get to the state tournament.
