Summer League Still Going Strong
The Sistersville Adult Summer Basketball League has not let the weather deter play as games have gone on as scheduled with some being moved in doors and others made up. As of July 13, 14 nights of league play has resulted in the Yellow team and Black team tied for the league lead with 11-3 records.
The Orange team is right behind with a 10-4 record, while White White stands at 8-6 and Green at 6-8. The TCHS Varsity team that often has players playing two games a night to keep the JV’s going has a 5-9 record. The Blue team is 3-11 and the JV’s round it out at 2-12.
On July 13, the Yellow team got a close one point hard fought win 79-78 over a game varsity team which could have gone either way. Yellow was led by Wells with 23 points and Hoff dropped in 20. Mark Rucker who has been nearly unstoppable and led the varsity with a game high 30 markers.
He game right back playing for the JV’s against the Blue team and dropped in 30 again in an easy 85-41 win. Backing him on the night was a solid all round game by Griffin Phillips who poured in 27. Leading the Blue squad was Tyler Anderson with 27.
The Green team got a big win on the 13th, handing the Orange team their fourth defeat of the summer 85-75. Matt Wright put on a shooting display knocking in 35 big ones while Justin Cooper added 27 in support. Leading the Orange was Aaron Heasley who tied Wright for game honors with 35.
Team Black got a big win over team White to move into a tie for first as Dimarcus and Terrance both dropped in 24 points to lead five double digit scorers. For the White team Spencer threw down 27 to take game honors.
Monday July 10, saw the Black team get another win as they bumped off team Yellow by five points 64-59. Dylan Romine had the hot hand for Black as he scored a game high 33 and was backed by Cole Kocher with 15. Leading the way for Yellow was Malakai Anderson with 21.
In another tight exciting game team Orange pulled out a two point win over team White to keep in contention as the Heasley boys led the way. Zach Heasley pumped in 30 big ones followed by brother Aaron with 17. White was led by the always consistent Spencer with 29.
Team Blue got it’s third victory of the summer but it was a big one, a 24 point win over the Varsity. Big Mark Winters showed he can still play the game as he hit from inside and out to wind up with 46 to take game honors. Zach Yeater also pitched in big with 30 and West added a big 28. Leading the Varsity was four players in double figures. Mark Rucker continued to show his game as he finished with 35 while Griffin Phillips continued to score well with 27. Cross added 17 and Mark Wilson knocked in 11.
The other game on the night saw another high scoring affair as the Green team put 120 points on the board against a game JV squad who got 93 of it’s own. Justin Cooper was unstoppable as he threw in 44 points for game honors. He was backed by Matt Wright who added 32 big ones. The JV got big a big night from Griffin Phillips who scored a team high 32 and Mark Rucker with 28 while Mark Wilson added 16.
Games played on Thursday July 6, found team Yellow edging out team White by one 78-77 in a thriller.
Last years Silver Knight Star Jace Reed put it on his shoulders and scored a game high 39 points to pace the winners. For the White team Spencer had another big game with 35 big ones.
In another big game the Green team outscored Blue 83-74 for the win. This was a great game as Green’s Justin Cooper was unstoppable as he scorched the nets for 47 points to take game honors. Team Blue had three players in double figures but it wasn’t enough to overcome Coopers scoring outburst. Ex-Silver Knight Tyler Anderson 24, and Wheeling Jesuit’s Mark Winters 23 led the Blue while Yeater added 15.
In another game on Thursday, Orange edged team Black 56-54. The Heasley brothers combined for 31 points to lead the way while Tommy Plillips added 12. Black was paced by Romine wit 25 game high points and Kocher with 16.
Monday July 3, games saw the Varsity pick up a big win over the Green team 68-56 as Griffin Phillips 23 and Kyle Mason 19 led the way. Justin Cooper took game scoring honors with 27 for the losers.
Team Blue edged team White in another contest 84-75. Spencer again had a big night as he poured in 32 points for game honors to lead the winners. The White team was led by Winters with 25 and Yeater with 23. Anderson added 17.
The Black team grabbed an 82-63 win over the JV’s with Cole Kocher scoring 22 to lead the way. Tim added 19, Romine 17 and Dimarcus 12. The Jv’s had three double digit scorers with Rucker 21, Mason 15 and Phillips 14.
The last game on July 3, saw team Yellow get by team Orange 70-62. Jace Reed put on another show as he accounted for more than half his teams points and scored a game high 40 points. Leading the way for team Orange was Z. Heasley with 17 and A. Heasley with 15. Tommy Phillips tossed in 10.
