With 25 Class A teams competing in the state track meet Tyler Consolidated, without the services of it’s top sprinter, finished a respectable fifth overall with 26 total team points, including a first place state champion in pole vaulter Jarrett Lemasters. The Knights also got strong performances from Tyler Anderson, who finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20-04, while the 4×100 team of Nicholas Gorby, Mark Rucker, Lemasters and Anderson finished third in a very good time of 45.18, just fractions of a second off the winning time.

Last week it was wrongly stated in this paper that Trent Shepherd ran the 4×100 in the regionals when in fact it was Nicholas Gorby who has been the starting leg since mid-April. The mistake was a result of information relayed to our paper and postings by the RUN WV site. We apologize for the mistake to the Gorby family especially Nicholas who is and has been a fine member of the 4×100 team.

Levi Morgan added points for the Silver Knights with a nice pole vault of 12, good for fourth place. The Knights 4×800 team of Gavin Corley, Dan Miller, Joshua Frum and Trey Keys finished in a respectable time of 9:18.26 with a team that will be returning for next season. Corley also turned in a nice performance in the open 1600 with a 4:55.95.

The Wildcats finished in the 13th spot despite only sending five boys to the meet. However Jake Pierce gave them a big boost as he out raced the field in the 300 meter high hurdles to claim the gold with a brilliant time of 40.61 despite a bad start and nearly falling after hitting a hurdle. Pierce kept his cool and kicked in the burners coming down the stretch to pass five runners to get the win and title of state champion. If is a big word but in this case it made the difference in a meet record because without the near fall he would have easily been under the 40 second mark.

The Wildcats shuttle hurdle team also added points to their total when they grabbed a fifth place spot with a 1:03.71. Team members included Cade Myers, Wesley Smith, Landon Smith and Pierce.

Though they never added points the Cats 4×200 team of L.Smith, W. Smith, Seth Bohrer and Pierce ran a good race. Myers also had a good run in the 300 meter hurdles with a 44.47.
