Silver Knights Are Sectional Champions

Tyler Consolidated went undefeated throughout the Class A Region 1, Section 11, baseball tournament with a 6-4 win on Saturday, at Tyler Consolidated High School. St. Mary’s who beat Magnolia on Thursday and Paden City on Friday were in a position to win the sectional but had to deafeat the Silver Knights twice to do so.

Tyler would have no part of that however as they took a 2-1 lead after one inning and a 4-1 after two. The Blue Devils came back in the top of the third and plated three runs to tie the score but from there on out they were held scoreless as the Knights plated two more for the win.

Luke Daugherty who remained undefeated this year with a 9-0 record pitched a complete game giving up just five hits while striking out eight batters and issuing only one walk. The Knights as a team got nine hits with Nate Lantz going 2-2 and knocking in two runs. Dylan Roberts also got an RBI with a single. Kyle Mason was 3-4 on the day.

“We have 20 wins this season and this was the biggest one yet. The kids have really stepped up their game and are playing with a lot of heart and enthusiasm. We willl be working hard as we prepare to make are run to the state. Our hittin, fielding and pitching has been real consistant and our attitude remains never give up,” said coach Robby Jones. “This is a special group, a special team and we are very proud of their hard work and determination.”

Tyler Consolidated gets 19th with win over Paden City

Wednesday night the Silver Knights picked up win number 19 on the season with a big 12-4 Class A Region 1, Section 11, victory over a good Paden City club.

Both teams went into the game without a loss in the tournament with the Silver Knights having the home field advantage based on record and twice beating the Cat’s in the regular season.

Paden City who beat St. Mary’s on Monday, May 8, to get to the game failed to score in the first two innings while the Knights put five runs on the board. In the top of the third the Wildcats closed the gap with three runs but the Knights next three at bats produced seven runs while Paden City got only one more in the top of the seventh to give the Silver Knights a 12-4 victory and put them one win away from the section title.

For Paden City, Trey Slider took the loss after falling behind 3-0 in the first. He was replaced by Aaron Heasley with only one out in the first. Heasley worked the next 4.2 innings before giving way to David Joy in the sixth.

Nate Lantz picked up the win throwing four innings and Dylan Roberts got the save working the last three. The 19-4 Knights ended with 10 hits on the night to three for the Cat’s.

Tyler West led the Knights going 3-4 from the plate including a triple, a double and three RBI’s. Lantz went 3-4 with three RBI and Kyle Mason knocked in a run one with two singles in four at bats. Colby Buchanan was 2-3 on the night

Aaron Hasley knocked in two Wildcat runs with a single and Hayden Hizer got and RBI.

Silver Knights best Magnolia

Tyler Consolidated jumped on Magnolia 2-0 in the first inning Tuesday, May 9, at Tyler Consolidated in Region 1, Section 11, baseball game. Luke Daugherty got his eight win without a loss this season pitching 5 2/3 innings.

After getting out of a small jam in the top of the first the Knights got a single from Nate Lantz who then scored on a hard hit double by Dylan Roberts. Roberts then stole third and Daugherty singled to bring in Roberts. The Knights loaded the bases with two out when Dylan Seckman walked but Trent Smith grounded out to end the inning.

Magnolia again loaded the bases with one out but the Knights got a force out at home and a fly out to center to end another Blue Eagle threat. The Knights failed to plate a run in the bottom of the inning and again held Magnolia scoreless in the top of the third.

In the bottom half Gage Huffman struck out and Seckman walked. Smith then struck out but Colby Buchanan drilled a single up the middle scoring Seckman. Kyle Mason then struck out to end the inning.

Magnolia went down in order in the fourth thanks to a great catch at third by Lantz. On the hard hit Lantz dove for the ball had it in his gove and it popped out while he was on the ground and as it came back down he bare handed it for the out.

In the bottom of the inning Tyler West led off with a double to right center, Lantz then struck out before Robert got hit by a pitch. Daugherty grounded out and Gage Huffman walked to load the bases. With West on third the umpire called a balk and West came in to give Tyler Consolidated a 4-0 lead. Seckman struck out to end the inning.

Magnolia got four hits and three runs in the fifth to pull to within one at 4-3 but the Knights had a big fifth as well. Smith, Buchanan and Mason loaded the bases with no outs and West double again knocking in three more runs. Lantz then got to first on an error which scored West. Roberts got hit by a pitch to reach first. He then stole second and third and later scored on an RBI by Daugherty who was thrown out at first. Huffman and Seckman both flew out to end the inning with the Knights on top 9-3.

Both teams went down in order in the sixth. But Magnolia plated three in the top of the seventh to make it interesting but it wasn’t enough and the Knights got victory 18 on the year.
