Spencer Corley Dominates in Track
The Tyler Consolidated Middle School track team ran in the Ritchie County meet on Wednesday, April 12, and one runner stood out above all others.
Eighth grader Spencer Corley scored 32 points for the Silver Knights as he won all four event he participated in. Tyler Consolidated high school will be looking to sure up its distance runners next year and Spencer looks like he just might be the answer. The Knights have several underclassmen who will return next year but when it comes to quality runners at least one more is on his way.
Corley will join up with this years varsity in hopes of keeping the Silver Knights on top of the field.
There is a movie called the Natural, I’m sure most of you have watched it. That’s what I think of when I think of what Spencer Corley did on Wednesday. Getting a first place finish is always something to be proud of but running the table in all your events shows signs of greatness.
At the Ritchie meet that’s exactly what Corley did. What makes it even more impressive is he did it in the 400, 800 and 1600 plus the high jump.
His 1600 time was good enough to qualify for points in many varsity meets. Not to many want to run the 400, but add to that the 800 and 1600 and your looking at pure dedication.
The Silver Knights are loaded with speed this year and are also working hard to get points in the distance runs. I think they may have to wait a year but I believe they have the answer.
