Silver Knights Softball Team Splits With Wirt County

Saturday was perfect weather for spring sports and Tyler Consolidated had both fields going with double headers plus a big track meet in Parkersburg.

The girls softball team who was fresh off two wins over Paden City earlier in the week, took to the field with hopes of improving to 4-1. They came close but didn’t quite make it as the Wirt County Tigers managed an 8-7 extra inning win in game one. The Knights, however, game back strong in the nightcap to gain a 7-3 victory and leave them at 3-2 on the season.

Game one was a dandy with Vanessa Templeton throwing all eight innings for the Knights, striking out six and walking only two batters , she took the loss but also went 2-4 from the plate with an RBI. Kenna Smith had the big bat for the Knights as she went 3-4 with a double and a RBI. Madison West and Kylie Martin each added two hits, a double and an RBI.

Game two saw the Knights outhit the Tigers 9-6 and scored six runs in their last three at bats to clobber the Tigers 7-3 behind the complete game pitching of Madison West. West helped her cause as she went 2-4 from the plate and knocked in three runs. Kylie Martin also went 2-4 and got an RBI while Kenna Smith added a double and knocked in a run.

Tyler Consolidated wins second over Wildcats

The Silver Knights won their second game in a row over Paden City on Wednesday, March 22. The Knights knocked the Wildcats off in Paden City earlier in the week as Madison West got the win. On Wednesday it was all Vanessa Templeton as the senior went the distance on the mound striking out eight batters while issuing four walks. Templeton was at her best however at the plate where she went 4-4 with two RBI’s on three doubles and a home run over the left center fence to lead the Knights to an 8-5 win.

Backing Templeton was Madison West and Kiley Martin who both added a double with 1-3 hitting. Madison Lasick came up big with three hits and JoLee Walton also went 3-4, while Allie Miller added an RBI on 2-4 at the plate

Aubrey Neff took the loss for the Wildcats as she struck out five and issued three walks while giving up eight runs on 16 hits. Neff had a good night at the plate as she got a triple and a home run bringing in two runs while going 2-4 at the plate. She was backed by Ashlyn Moses who came through with two hits on the night. Paden City fell to 1-2 with the loss while the Silver Knights improved to 2-1.

Silver Knights Slam Paden City

The hometanding Paden City Wildcats jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings before the Knights came back in the top of the third with three runs to tie things up. Neither team scored in the fourth but Tyler Consolidated put two more on the board in the fifth and three more in the sixth while holding Paden City scoreless until the the bottom of seventh. The Silver Knights stretched their lead to 11-4 before the Cat’s plated a run in their last at bat for a final score of 11-5 Tyler Consolidated. The Knights moved to 1-1 with the win.

Knights’ senior Madison West worked all seven innings getting the win with nine strikeouts while walking only two. She also aided the cause with a double and a single. Senior Vanessa Templeton, had a hot bat as she went 2-4 including a triple and a double with two RBI.

Sophomore catcher JoLee Walton went 2-4 knocking in five runs with a double and a single. Madison DeVaughn hit a two run homer in the fifth and Allie Miller cracked two singles and knocked in a run, as did Kylie Martin who went 2-5 on the night.

Paden City was led by Delainey Lantz who knocked in two runs on 2-3 at bats. Aubrey Neff had two RBI on 2-4 at the plate while Madaline Cox went added two singles. Ashlyn Moses knocked in a run with a double as she went 1-4 from the plate.

Hannah Loy took the loss for the Cat’s working 6.2 innings, striking out four batters while walking eight. Caitlin Stewart came in and got a strikeout working the last out. Paden City evened their record at 1-1 with the loss.
