TCHS Softball Team Looks to Improve Record in 2016

Tyler Consolidated looks to improve on last year’s record. After winning only two game last season, the Silver Knights . fourth year under Head Coach Samantha Livingston, are optimistic they will show great improvement. Livingston says solid pitching and power hitting will be their strong points. Junior Vanessa Templeton will return as one of two top pitcher’s returning from last year and will be counted on to fill about any spot on the field as needed. Templeton was a second team All-OVAC last season. Madison West, another junior, is also back to work the mound but will also be called on to work behind the plate. Kylie artin, another starter from last year and a first team All-OVAC infielder, will once again anchor the infield at shortstop or second base. Martin will also be counted on to hit in the clutch.

“We have some good ball players returning. We will be much improved from last season as all the key spots will have veteran players who are skilled and experienced. We didn’t lose anyone to graduation and we don’t have any seniors on our squad, so we feel we will be competitive for the next few years,” said Livingston. “Bob West is my new assistant and he brings a world of knowledge and hard work to the team, I am very happy to have him.”

Sophomore Madison Lasick will be back at first base and also returns as the top hitter. Another sophomore ,Joralda Rice a second team All-LKC selection last year , an be used in several spots but will primarily play in the outfield to take advantage of her speed.

Others vying for playing time will be juniors Maria Long at catcher or third, Payden Clem, second, Megan Miller, pitcher and outfield., and Rhianna Long, outfield. sophomores, Julianna Miller, outfield, Kenna Smith, a starter from last year will be back again in center field and can play infield as well, Autumn Wells, Monica Likens and Danielle Grimes will all be trying for the outfield Freshmen looking for playing time will be JoLee Walton at catcher or outfield., Taylor Ebert, outfield and Brianna Wade, outfield.

Livingston said the Lady Knights will play a 30-game schedule which she hopes will prepare her team for the sectionals starting in May.
