Larry Ritchie Memorial Held at Tyler Consolidated
The Silver Knights wrestling team held the Larry Ritchie Memorial tournament on Saturday with 11 teams competing. Tyler Consolidated behind strong efforts from Brandon Keys and Chase Cooper finished fifth among the 10 other teams. Taking place in the tournament were first place finisher Weirton Madonna 241.5, second place Magnolia 220, third place Bridgeport, WV 145, fourth place River 103, five place Tyler Consolidated 99, sixth place Bridgeport, Ohio 93, seventh place Novice 83, eighth place South Harrison 71.5, ninth place John Marshall 66.5, tenth place Doddridge County 53, eleventh place Fort Frye 51′
Chase Cooper placed second in the 145 division for the Silver Knights, while Brandon Keys got a second place finish at 195. Cory Hipps had a good day and ended in third place in the 285 lb. division. The Silver Knights will be in action on Jan. 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Cameron tournament.
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, the Knights traveled to Ritchie County and took part in the Ritchie County Duals. As a team they ended up 5-5 and every wrestler was able to secure a win. Chase Cooper had very little time on the mat as he pinned his way through most of the day. Chase ended up with a 9-1 record on the weekend.
Several other wrestlers had winning records as Cody Hunter ended at (6-4), Colton Mead (8-2), Mike Doyle (6-4) Brandon Keys (7-3), and Cory Chipps (7-3).
Tyler Consolidated’s Wrestling team competed in the River Quad on Dec. 9, they went 1-3 losing to Monroe Central by a match. Magnolia with a much larger and more experienced team overcame the Silver Knights 63-18. The Knights however came back and pulled off a win over River 30-27. Chase Cooper (3-0) led the way for the Knights along with Tyler Anderson (2-1).
