Paden City Girls Win Opener
Playing her first varsity game in a wildcat uniform Freshman Hannah Loy pumped in 21 markers to lead the Lady Cats to a 47-34 victory over the Hundred Hornets.
Playing pressure defense, moving the ball well and taking advantage of the Hornets turnovers and poor shooting, the Cats jumped out to a 27-8 halftime advantage. In the second half of play Hundred held a 26-20 edge but it wasn’t enough as the girls from Paden City came away with the win on the Hornets home court.
Hundred was paced by Valerie Soles who hit for 12 points, 14, rebounds, and five blocks. Paden City is coached by Allen Miller and Jamie Natali jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back in gaining their initial win of the season. The Cats are a young an inexperienced team with a lot of potential.
Paden City’s young girls basketball team found the going a little tough on Friday and Saturday as they hosted the annual Paden City Christmas classic. Playing a much more experienced and bigger Valley squad the Lady Cats couldn’t get much going and found itself on the short end of a 41-3 halftime score. Things didn’t get much better in the second half with Valley coming away with a 57-13 win. Sopia Caputo’s four markers led the Wildcats , with Hannah Loy, Chelsea Baker, and Hope Cooper all pitching in a duece.
In the consolation game of the Christmas classic Clay Battelle jumped out to a 28- 10 first half lead over the Lady Cats and then held on for a 46-30 victory. Hannah Loy a freshman point guard has 15 points to pace the Cats while Ashlyn Moses chipped in with seven markers and six rebounds. Chelsea Baker grabbed seven boards for Paden City.
The Lady Cats are 1-2 on the season with their next game a home contest against Magnolia on December 14. Hannah Loy was selected to the all-tournament team from Paden City.
