Lady Knights Wrap Up Christmas Classic

Tyler Consolidated’s Lady Knights Amanda Reynolds poured in a scored a game high 19 points on Saturday as they slipped by Valley in a squeaker 54-52 to claim the championship trophy in the Paden City Girls Christmas classic.

The Lady Knights stood at 2-1 on the season with two home contests this week. Tyler was led in rebounding by Kara Dalymple with 16 boards while also knocking down eight points. Katlyn Gogan poured in 11 markers to back up Reynolds in the scoring department. Making the all-tournament team for the Silver Knights were Dalymple, Gogan and Reynolds. The Lady Knights fresh off a loss at Williamstown the night before opened the Paden City Girls Christmas Classic on Friday with a resounding 63-29 victory over a good Clay Battelle team. Tyler jumped all over the C.B’s and took a 19-4 first quarter lead behind the solid play of Ariel Fish and Amanda Reynolds. They upped the lead to 34-10 at the half and breezed to the win outscoring Clay Battelle 29-19 in the second half.

Good solid pressure defense and rebounding played the way as Fish grabbed 13 boards and Katelyn Gogan had 11. Peyton Kocher tossed in 12 points to lead the Lady Knights while Fish and Amanda Reynolds each hit for 10. Fish also dissed off five assist. Josey Jones played solid defense with three steals and scored nine points as did Kylie Martin. The win propelled the Knights into the Championship game on Saturday against Valley who crushed Paden City in the second game Friday by a score of 57-13.

Playing at Williamstown in their first contest of the year, head coach Cathy Boggs and her Lady Knights came out fired up in the first quarter and took a 10-seven advantage after one. With good defense and team play the Knights went into the locker room with a 25-22 lead.

Williamstown came out in the second half and hit some clutch shots to go ahead by eight after three and eventually come away with a 65-54 victory. Ariel Fish finished the game with 19 markers for the Knights while Vanessa Templeton chipped in with 11. The game was lost at the foul line where the Knights went only 13-39 while Williamstown however went 24-41.

Top scoring honors for the game went to Williamstown’s with 22 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Knights also turned the ball over 33 times to 25 for the Yellowjackets. Tyler’s pressure defense and ability to get some easy buckets kept Williamstown baffled most of the first half in the LKC battle. However turnovers and pour foul shooting spelled defeat for the Lady Knights.
