Tyler’s Perez Chosen to Play in OVAC Soccer Classic
Tyler Consolidated’s Federico Perez was chosen to participate in the OVAC Soccer Classic in Steubenville on Sunday, Nov. 15.
Perez has been a standout for the Silver Knights since moving to the U.S. from Colombia at the start of his sophomore year.
Fede, as he is known to most, quickly became a Tyler Consolidated fan favorite with his great footwork and unselfish play.
“I am all about helping the team, whether it’s scoring or passing or playing defense. I feel I could have scored more goals but sometimes you have to take advantage of the opportunities the defense gives you and work to set up your teammates,” said Perez.
“Fede is one of the most unselfish players I’ve ever had. He is also one of the most skilled. His knowledge of the game is like having a coach on the field. He is capable of playing at the next level and several schools have shown an interest in him,” said TCHS soccer coach Scott Wall.
The OVAC All-Star Classic is made up of seniors from Ohio and West Virginia.
Perez played more than 50 minutes in Sunday’s contest. Although he didn’t score, he played an important role as West Virginia was able to come away with a 3-1 victory over the Ohio team.
For his effort on Sunday, he has been chosen as the Tyler Star News Player of the Week. Congratulations to Fede, and good luck in the upcoming North-South game.
