Lady Knights Win Sectional
After soundly defeating St. Marys and Clay Battelle on Wednesday, Nov. 4, for the Region IV sectional volleyball championship, the Silver Knights came right back Saturday and easily defeated Weirton Madonna and Magnolia to capture the regional title.
The Lady Knights will be making their fourth straight trip to the state tournament this Friday when they travel to Charleston. Coach Richard Summers’ squad now stands at 34-17 on the season. Most
of their defeats have come at the hands of AAA schools.
Ariel Fish, a senior leader, finished the two tournaments in high fashion. She controlled the net play for the most part while also playing an all-around floor game.
Freshman JoLee Walton served up some big points during the sectional play, recording 22 points and eight aces in the two matches. Junior Abbie Fetcher has been productive all season around the net with her blocking skills and ability to get high for kills.
In the two events, she has 43 kills and 16 blocks.
Against Magnolia in the regional championship game, Fish went on a mission with eight kills, eight blocks, 18 digs, 11 points and two aces.
The overall floor play of the Knights was just too much for the Eagles. Magnolia put up a valiant effort but Tyler sent them down in three straight sets, 25-12, 25-14 and 25-17.
Macy Long has been outstanding setting the ball. She has record 74 sets and 25 assists in the championship win.
Tyler has now won 12 straight sets in tournament play and will try and continue the streak come Friday. With Coach Summers getting fine play from several different players, it looks like they may be one of the teams to beat.
Good luck in Charleston, TCHS Lady Knights.
