South Harrison Soundly Defeats Paden City, 51-6
Paden City scored on the game’s first possession, but the Class A No. 2-ranked South Harrison Hawks put up 51 unanswered points to beat Paden City, 51-6, Oct. 30 at South Harrison High School.
After receiving the opening kick, Paden City’s Aaron Heasley connected with teammate Hayden Hizer on a 51-yard screen play down the sidelines all the way down to the Hawks’ one-yard line. From there, Heasley handed off to senior tailback Zach Yeater who punched it in for a quick 6-0 Paden City lead.
Wildcats’ senior center Daulton Schultheis was the first Wildcat casualty, with a shoulder injury, in the opening period and didn’t return, while Hizer fell later in the second period. He also did not return.
With two starters out, Paden City had only 14 players and the Hawks just wore down the Wildcats.
Offensively, Hizer caught one pass for 51 yards, while Luke Cooper caught the other four Heasley passes for 38 yards. On the ground, Marcus Allen had the only positive yardage for the ‘Cats with 22 yards on six carries.
For the game, the Wildcats were a minus 14 yards rushing, with Heasley tacking on 89 yards completing 5-of-16 passes and four interceptions.
Paden City did move the chains eight times and committed five infractions for 35 yards lost. The Wildcats also lost one fumble for five turnovers for the game.
Rander Amos led the ‘Cats with nine tackles. Logan Carroll dropped eight Hawk ball carriers and Heasley six. In addition, Allen, Cooper and Devin Price each recorded five tackles, with Cooper and Price hauling in a fumble recovery.
The Wildcats will conclude its 2015 campaign against county rival Valley Friday at Berger Field in Paden City at 7:30 p.m.
