Tyler Golf Team Finishes Regular Season
The Tyler Consolidated Knights Golf team finished their regular season during the week of September 21-25 with the LKC Tournament and Parents’ Night at home, while the middle school team played an away match.
On Monday, September 21, the TCHS Knights traveled to Wirt County to the Mingo Bottom Golf Club near Elizabeth, WV, for the LKC Tournament. Team scores were: Roane – 307; Webster – 329; Gilmer – 342; Ritchie – 355; Ravenswood – 356; Williamstown – 380; St. Marys – 385; Braxton – 397; Tyler – 415; Parkersburg Catholic – 421; Wirt – 438; Clay – 447; South Harrison – (only 3 players = 320).
For the Silver and Black, senior Ty Pratt carded the low score with a 96 on the par 72 course. Other Knight scores were: Kaleb Tanley (senior) – 101; Cheyenne Morris (sophomore) – 106; Noah Miller (sophomore) – 112; Levi Hudson (junior) – 117. Medalist for the tournament was Ben Knight of Ritchie, with 70, followed by Roane County twin seniors Cam and Cole Moore with 72 and 73, respectively.
Pratt commented that “I shot 11 strokes better than when we played Mingo back in August, so it was an OK day.” Fellow senior, Tanley, also reflected on the day: “Not bad for my last LKC tournament.”
Coach Joe Griffith noted that “I would have liked for us to finish below 400, but Mingo has a lot of places to get into trouble, and we seemed to find quite a lot of those places. Even so, our team score dropped from 461 to 415 since the Wirt Invitational back at the first week of the season. So we did show improvement.”
On Wednesday, September 23, the team finished the regular season with a home match against Magnolia and Paden City.
This was the annual Parents’ Night finale, with a covered dish dinner for all three teams and families following the match. Magnolia owned the night, finishing at 164, with Tyler edging out PC by one stroke, 195 to 196.
Tyler was led by Ty Pratt, with 42, followed by: Cheyenne Morris – 49; Kaleb Tanley – 52; Noah Miller – 52; Levi Hudson – 52; Gage Potoczny – 53; Karly Allen – 61; Kellsi Anderson – 63; Preston Grimes – 65 and Haiden Placer – 66. Scores for Paden City were: Jake Pierce – 45; Michael Wilcox – 46; Dezirae Middleton – 52; Kyle Stackpole – 53 and Logan Crawford – 64. Overall medalist for the match was Peyton Moore of Magnolia, with 37.
For seniors Karly Allen and Kellsi Anderson, it was their last match. Allen reflected on her senior year: “I played golf for two years, and during my senior year, I improved quite a bit. It was a good year.” Anderson finished her fourth year on the team by remarking that “It was my last high school match, so it was a bit upsetting. But I did better than I thought I would. I think all of the seniors enjoyed their last match.” Other Knight seniors include Ty Pratt and Kaleb Tanley, both of which continued on to play in the regional tournament at Moundsville Country Club on Monday, September 28.
“I have really enjoyed working with these four seniors,” said Coach Griffith. “Ty and Kellsi have been with us for four years, and I wish that Karly and Kaleb had joined the team earlier, too. I wish them many more rounds of enjoyable golf in their future.”
The Knights finished the regular season with a record of 22-65, heading into the Region 1 “A” Tournament on Monday, September 28, at Moundsville Country Club.
The Tyler Middle School team traveled to Marietta on Thursday, September 24, to take on Marietta and Williamstown at the Pioneer Golf Center behind Walmart. Marietta finished at 187, followed by Williamstown at 195 and Tyler at 233. For the Middle Knights, Gavin Morris led the team with 55, joined by Jackson Kibbey – 57; Jaden Holmes – 57 and Anna Griffith – 64.
The TCMS team record dropped to 3-4 on the season, with their next action being Wednesday, September 30, at North Bend against Ritchie, then October 6 at Golf Club of WV north of Parkersburg, and finishing out their season with a home match against Linsly on Wednesday, October 7.
