Lloyd, Cooper and Neff Are Named Athletes of the Week
This weeks athlete of the week goes to Audrey Neff of Paden City. Neff tallied 46 points and dished out 20 assists in a four set tri match with Linsly and Hundred.
Kale Lloyd had a monster game defensively for the Valley Lumberjacks. He made 16 tackles, that included three quarterback sacks and numerous tackles for loss of yardage in helping the ‘Jacks defeat Clay-Battelle, 46-14.
Luke Cooper of Paden City had his third 100 plus game of the season receiving. He hauled in 117 yards and a score in the loss to the River Pilots Friday night.
Special Mention went to the ‘Jacks Matthew Throckmorton. He rushed for his second straight 100 plus yardage game after taking over for the injured Liam Midcap. The latest one coming against the powerful Cee-Bees of Clay-Battelle with 100 yards on only nine carries and a pair of touchdowns.
Another special mention candidate is Tucker Cain of Valley. Cain has been the leading receiver for the Lumberjacks this season. This past Friday he caught five passes for 85 yards and rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground on three carries.
Honorable Mention goes to the Pilots Grant Williams. Williams in his first varsity start kicking conversion kicks, split the uprights four times in four chances.
The Athlete of the Week is given to an area’s top athlete chosen by the sports staff at Wetzel Chronicle and the Tyler Star News. The winners can only claim athlete of the week once in that sport throughout the season.
Schools that will have a chance to win are Magnolia, Tyler Consolidated, Paden City, Hundred and River High Schools.
