Moore, Perez Named First Athletes of Week
The first area athlete of the week goes to Magnolia’s and Tyler Consolidated’s Federerco Perez of Tyler Consolidated.
Peyton Moore is a junior golf athlete that won back-to-back medalist in his two matches last week at Clar-Mar in Powhatan, shooting an even par to help Magnolia win their match.
In his second match at the Fairway Riverside Golf Course, Moore shot a sizzling 34 to win his second straight medalist that helped Magnolia win its match.
Federico Perez scored two of the three Silver Knight goals to help Tyler Consolidated beat Oak Glen 3-0 in it’s first soccer match of the season.
Honorable Mention goes to Jordan Delaney of Magnolia, this junior finished sixth overall in a field of 128 runners in her first cross country meet of the season. Delaney’s time was 22:14.35.
Special mention went to Magnolia soccer player Alex Anderson who scored his 50thgoal of his career in a 10-1 loss to Williamstown.
The Athlete of the week is given to the area’s top athlete chosen by the sports staff at Wetzel Chronicle and Tyler Star News. They can only win one time in their sport throughout the season.
Schools that we will have a chance to win the athlete of the week are Magnolia, Tyler Consolidated, Paden City, Valley, Hundred and River high schools.
