Tyler Consolidated Host Putzulu Invitational
The Tyler Consolidated High School Volleyball Team hosted its 8th Annual Putzulu Invitational Tournament on Saturday, June 20. A total of 15 teams representing 12 high schools from West Virginia and Ohio competed throughout the day, with perennial AAA powerhouse Parkersburg High School taking the championship.
The tournament is named in honor of Ms. Linda PUtzulu, a longtime educator and coach in Tyler County Schools. Ms. Putzulu coached numerous sports at Sistersville High School and has been an avid supporter of girls’ and boys’ sports at Tyler Consolidated, as well as a photographer who has chronicled school events for school yearbooks and local publications for many years.
Philip Barbour claimed the Runner-Up trophy in the tournament. Other schools represented were host Tyler Consolidated (two teams), Williamstown (two teams), Hedgesville, Morgantown, Paden City, Parkersburg South, Robert C. Byrd, Warren, Frontier, and Ritchie County.
According to Tyler Consolidated Head Coach Richard Summers, “To have 15 teams come from all over West Virginia and Ohio is a tribute to the tournament and particularly, Ms. Putzulu. We appreciate all the support she has given our program over the years.”
