Spotlight on Tyler Consolidated High School’s Football Standout Colby Lash
This week the spotlight is on Colby Lash from Tyler Consolidated High School. Lash will be entering his senior year this fall and from all indications this young man is going to be a handful for opposing teams. Lash is a well built 5′ 11′ 165 pound two sport athlete who takes his training serious and to the next level.
Silver Knight’s fans, get ready for some excitement this fall! Lash definitely has plans for the Silver Knights come football time. He has high expectations for the team this year and has set some pretty high personal goals as well.
“We want to have a winning season, win the LKC and make the playoffs. As a team we are all working hard in the weight room and on our conditioning, we have a saying, never be satisfied. We’re going to lay it all on the line and just see what happens,” he said.
Lash has been a regular for the Silver Knights since his freshman year, as a center fielder in baseball and on offense and defense in football. This past year he was named honorable mentioned to both the LKC and OVAC football squads and was a second team choice for the LKC baseball team.
More importantly, he also excels academically as he is a regular on the honor roll and is currently a 4.0 student and has an excellent attendance record.
“He’s the first guy at practice and the last to leave, he does extra stuff and is a natural leader who leads by example and not just by mouth. He looks out for the other guys, especially the younger players,” said Tyler Consolidated’s head football coach and athletic director Ryan Walton.
Walton said Lash will be playing in the secondary on defense and running back on offense.
“We will probably spread him out some as he was our leading receiver last year. With his good hands and speed we will let him return punts and kickoffs, and with his dedication in the weight room he will be hard to bring down,” Walton said.
Colby said he would like to attend Fairmont University after graduation and become a pediatric nurse. He said he is excited to be preparing for his senior year both physically and mentally as he wants to help make the Silver Knights be the best that they can be.
“This is my last shot and I’m going to give it my all, both on and off the fields at Tyler Consolidated High School,” he said.
From our perspective here in the Sports department we see big things in the future for this bright young man. He is a quiet type of guy who didn’t have much to say but was eager to get back to his training. He is dedicated to his task at hand and willing to follow rules and listen to his coaches.
He was even polite enough to say he was sorry for sweating when we shook hands, I said don’t worry about it! I didn’t mention he had a grip that still has my hand hurting. Good luck Colby on your senior year at Tyler Consolidated, and coach’s Walton and Jones, you have a dandy in this one.
