Tyler Consolidated’s baseball team went into Wednesday’s sectional game with St. Mary’s fresh off a big win over Valley. Tyler had scored 20 runs against Valley on Tuesday and was looking to jump out early on the Blue Devils of St. Mary’s.

Colby Buchanan, got to first after getting hit by a pitch but was forced out at second when Jordan Baker got to first on a fielders choice by St. Mary’s. Baker was then caught stealing and Colby Lash struck out to end what looked like a good inning.

Four straight singles, two walks and a double gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead heading into the second. After holding the Knights scoreless in the second St. Mary’s put 5 more on the board in their half of the inning for a 8-0 lead after two.

Both teams later added a run for a final score of 9-1 St. Mary’s.

Colby Buchanan, took the loss giving up 10 hits in the first two innings but settled down to pitch 2 hit ball while striking out three the rest off the game.

Baker, Lash, Austin Thompson, Trent Smith and Luke Daughtery all had singles on the night while Dylan Roberts blasted a triple and Buchanan added a pair of singles.

On Thursday, the teams met up again with Tyler needing a win to force a game three. St. Mary’s though had other ideas and sent the Silver Knights home with a season ending loss.

With Jordan Baker, working the mound, Tyler shut the Blue Devil’s down for the first three innings and went into the fourth with a 3-0 lead. St. Mary’s came back in the fourth however and put seven runs on the board to go ahead 7-3. Tyler came right back with two of it’s own in the fifth to pull to within two at 7-5. The Silver Knights put another run on the board in the sixth to make it 7-6 but the Blue Devil’s added two in their half of the inning to go ahead 9-6 with one inning left. Tyler managed a single in the seventh but three strikeouts ended the inning to give St. Mary’s the victory.

Colby Buchanan, had two singles and scored two runs, Jordan Baker, had two singles and scored twice, Colby Lash, had a double, two RBI and scored a run, Austin Thompson, scored a run, Dylan Glover, had asingle and an RBI, while Trent Smith had a good night at the plate with three singles and three RBI.

Baker, took the loss for Tyler giving up 11 hits, while striking out 5 and issuing only one walk. The Silver Knights finished the season with an 11-16 record. Tyler was a young team this year and will lose only one player to graduation. Look for big things from this team in 2016.
