Lady Knights host Lady ‘Cats at home
The Tyler Consolidated Lady Knight varsity basketball team continued their season last week, grabbing one win and a loss to put their win-loss record at 3-15.
The Lady Knights secured their third win of the season on Jan. 26 defeating Paden City at Tyler Consolidated, 54-38.
It was a Knight controlled game from the get-go as Consolidated made good on their shots in the first period to take the lead, 18-8. Paden City slipped through the Knight defense in the second stanza, outscoring the home team, 12-9, but still found themselves behind on the scoreboard, 27-20.
In the third period, the Lady Knight defense held the ‘Cats to five points while lenthening their own lead by 14. The game ended with a good fourth quarter by both teams, with each scoring 13 to end the game 54-38.
Statistics for the game for the Lady Knights include: Amanda Reynolds scoring 12 points and pulling down two rebounds. She also had two steals and two blocks; Kylie Martin had eight points, two rebounds, one assist, five steals and one block; Ariel Fish, eight points, six rebounds, four steals; Aleah Black, four points, two rebounds, one steal, five blocks; Katelyn Gogan, four points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals; Hannah Casteel, three rebounds, one steal; and Kara Dalrymple was credited with one rebound.
At Williamstown on Jan. 27 the Lady Knights had their work cut out for them as they faced off with the Lady Yellow Jackets. Williamstown was on their game though as they heavy handedly pocketed their 12th win for the season to the tune of 87-44.
Vanessa Templeton scored 20 points, had 12 rebounds, one assist and one steal to lead the Lady Knights in the effort. Reynolds scored eight points had three rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks; Martin had six points, three rebounds, one steal; Gogan, four points, three rebounds; two assists, two steals; Black, two points, three rebounds; Fish, two points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals; Yoho, two points, two rebounds, one assist, two steals; Casteel, one rebound, one assist, one steal; Dalrymple, two rebounds; Martha Shepherd, three rebounds, one steal, one block; Madison West, five rebounds, two steals; and Breanna Yeater chipped in two rebounds and stole the ball once.
The Lady Knights will host Ravenswood at 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 5 and will host the LKC placement game on Feb. 12.
West Virginia Girls High School Basketball Sectionals will begin the week of Feb. 21 with the schedules released at a later date.
