Lady Wildcats win over Hornets at Challenge

The Lady Wildcat varsity basketball team at Paden City High School has certainly seen their share of tough competition of late, with a schedule not making it easy to get notches in the win column.

On Jan. 17 the Ladies in Green and White fell to Union Grant in the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament at Union.

Hannah Stanley scored a game-high 17 points in the game, while Kayla Hizer contributed seven. Cydney Blatt and Malayna Price put up six points apiece and Blatt added a game-high 11 rebounds. Chelsea Baker made six points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Aubrey Neff finished all the Lady ‘Cat scoring with a free throw.

At Wood County Christian on Jan. 15, the Lady Wildcats fell to the home team, 60-39.

Lady Wildcat, Cydney Blatt recorded a double-double in the game with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Price contributed eight points and eight rebounds, while Stanley and Chelsea Baker each finished with six points apiece. Aubrey Neff netted four; Kayla Hizer, two points; and Darien Ritchie had two.

On Jan. 22 in Blacksville against the Lady Cee-Bee’s, Paden City’s Hannah Stanley scored a career-high 28 points, including a career-high six three-pointers, but it still wasn’t enough to get past Clay-Battelle.

After falling behind 35-22 at the break and 45-28 after three periods of play, the Wildcats out-scored the Cee-Bees 19-9 in the final period to make it a closer game.

Hizer contributed 10 points in the effort; Neff had four; Price, three; and Ritchie added three points.

At the Rotary Challenge held at Magnolia High School in New Martinsville on Jan. 24, the Lady ‘Cats recorded a win, 66-34 over the Lady Hornets of Hundred.

The ‘Cats had three players chalking up 16 points apiece in the win with Hizer, Stanley and Neff all shooting with confidence on the day. Ritchie added six points; Price had five points; Baker, four; Blatt two; and Caitlin Stewart added one point.

The Lady Wildcats were scheduled to play at Tyler Consolidated on Monday and will host St. John Central on Wednesday.
